4Mile B&B

Remember way back when in August when I turned 27 and my sweet husband took me to Glenwood Springs for the weekend? Well, this was the adorable B&B we stayed in. It was about 15 minutes outside of town and it was just stunning. Every corner of it made me want to snap a picture! I can't believe it has taken me this long to share this post with you guys, but life has been a little nutty to say the least.

Have you all taken any trips lately? Our anniversary is coming up and I am trying to convince D to go to Utah for the weekend. I went there when I was a freshman in college and it is one of the most magical places I have ever been. Wish me luck! Oh and I am going to be heading to Boston for thanksgiving to see my best friend, Amelia. She grew up on Martha's Vineyard, so we are going to take a trip there too. I have never been and I can't wait to see it!

How was your weekend? Mine went by far too quickly! I have about six days left of my real estate class and then I have to just make sure I don't fail that pesky test.

This week my family got back from their road trip. My crazy mother packed a van full of all of my little brothers and sisters and drove from Colorado to Maine to New York to Pennsylvania to North Carolina to Florida to Texas and back to Colorado. It took them a bit over three weeks. Of course I missed them and I was so happy to see everyone especially because they brought with them my beautiful Aunt who I haven't seen in almost three years and an adorable puppy that my little brother is calling Bandito.

Lately it seems the weeks have just been passing me by. You know when you are so busy and you check in for a minute and realize a month has passed and you can't figure out how? I have been staying up extra late to try and grab at time, but then that just makes me tired the next day, which doesn't help the problem. One day I will figure this time management thing out right? I have to go to the gym, like right now.

I am in the process of crocheting my little hands off so that I can open manzantia back up with a full stock of ready to ship inventory, the pretty goodies on the couch in the fourth image are a sneak peek. I find that I enjoy creating so much more when I don't have a deadline or guidelines. The danger in making a small business out of something you love is that it becomes a job. I love and I hate this.

Most of you know that I am writing a book, it is a fantasy fiction novel, and there is a necklace that plays a role in the story. A couple weeks ago I thought that I should try and find the necklace in "real life" and wear it while I write the story. I thought it might be a nice keep sake if I ever finish it. And, the stone is supposed to help connect the wearer with what I am writing about (sorry to be vague, and for being such a hippie:) I ordered the necklace in the last image off etsy and it feels right, I like playing with it around my neck while I brain storm about characters and make notes.

little things

So I started a little spin off blog a couple weeks ago called Little Things. I realized looking through manzanita that I have this amazing account of my creative endeavours for the last year and a half but not too much about my day to day life, which is ofcourse equally as important. I realized after writing a few posts that I could easily incorporate the material right here on manzanita, man I am the most indecisive person ever, you know?

My mother took all my little siblings on a road trip across the country and they will be gone for almost a whole month. My manzanita assistant, Alysia, is among them and that makes photo shoots a bit more difficult. D and I are watching Mia for them, the adorable little mop dog that you see in the video(the song in the video is by Basia Bulat).

She is quite a handful, but I love her:) This week I have been reading Fifty Shades of Gray, embroidering, crocheting, writing A LOT!

denver botanical gardens

A couple of months ago Dustin's lovely mother and her fiance Jon came to Colorado for a visit. We have a lot of beauty around us here in Boulder/Denver and we always seem to get to explore more of it when they come around. They are so motivated to get out there, which is good for me and D because we are such home bodies.

While they were here we got to visit the Denver Botanical Gardens, and of course it was stunning. Right before they came to visit I upgraded to the Canon T3i and the garden was the first place I got to play around with the video feature.

After making our wedding video I knew that I wanted to get an SLR that had video capability, because iMovie is like magic, and I was really excited to play around and capture beautiful things with video. Have you made many videos? Anything you have learned along the way that you wish you knew sooner?

On another note, yours truly was up till 3am last night because I started on my very first embroidery project. One of my dearest friends from high school, actually the lovely lady that taught me how to crochet, is getting married in August and sadly I can not attend. I wanted to include a handmade gift with her wedding present so I started to embroider something and I could not stop! Like I need another hobby, but seriously I am in love. I thought since I am in seriously in LOVE with the season changing right now I would crochet you all a metaphorical flower. If only I could crochet this quickly, I would never be overwhelmed!

If you are in the area you should definitely come and check them out. They are in town from Portland, OR and they always put on the best and most intamate shows. D and I will be front row center!
