how to cheat at winged eyeliner

Hello lovely people! I get a lot of comments from people around town and here on manzanita about my eye makeup. Liquid eyeliner seems to be one of those things that if you are not comfortable with it, then you are terrified of it!

I grew up watching my mother use it everyday. Some of my earliest memories are of watching her in the reflection of the mirror. She was always so good applying makeup, a perfect flick of her wrist and a thin winged line of black sat on the top of her eyelid, or at least thats how I remember it.

I started practicing from a young age and eventually became confident in the skill. Still, when I am running late for work or just don't feel like being so careful with the application, this technique comes in handy!

-First you want to start off with a thin line, then push down on the brush gradually as you slide the brush to end of your lid.

-Once you get there you can go back in with the brush and extend the line past the corner of your lid(as shown in the 4th image) it almost has a little cleopatra style.

-After that, you'll want to wet the tip of your q-tip and place it at the edge of your line, slowly bring the q-tip down in an angle until you reach the corner of your eyelid.

That's that! You can touch up as needed. This technique should give you a nice thick winged look.If you have never played with liquid eyeliner I hope this motivates you to give it a shot! It is one of my staples and I think it creates such a lovely effect.

DIY// chalk hair coloring

You may have seen this around already but I after my stylist told me about it a couple weeks ago I had to give it a try! She suggested using sidewalk chalk, which I did, at first. It was pretty hard to keep in my hair and didn't really give me the kind of pigment I wanted.

So, I went to the art supply store and picked up some soft pastel chalks. These worked like a charm! My day job is the kind where if I showed up with blue hair my boss might want to have a conversation with me. This alternative is perfect because it is pretty temporary. Although, it did take about three washes to get the red out. It lightened to a soft pink in the process. I would imagine it would be these way with any dark and vibrant colors.

If you have a dress code day job like me or just don't want to make the commitment to brightly colored hair just follow the easy instructions above and add a little color to your life! If you give it a shot I would love to see some photos:)

DIY// pre-wedding facial on a budget

When you start planning your wedding two weeks from the date you have to decide where your money is going to go. Things like pre-wedding beauty regiments were not at the top of my list. So, I came up with this really easy DIY facial scrub!

 What You'll Need:

-Honey: I used the honey from Ya Ya Apple Orchard and Farm (where we got married)

-Turmeric: This is a great spice to have around the house for cooking, its delicious! Also, women from India have traditionally used turmeric in the bridal beautification process for centuries. It is said to have anti aging qualities.  

-Salt: Also pretty regularly found around the house, this will give the scrub the ability to exfoliate.

-Lavender Oil: Nice to have around because it has a soothing property when used as aroma therapy. You can add a couple drops to your bath as a stress reducer. It also has an anti-inflammatory property so it can really help with skin issues.

-A Jar: I got mine at Hobby Lobby for $1.99

I did not use specific measurement when making the scrub. I found myself needing to add a bit more honey  and salt to get the consistency that I desired. You can rub the paste between your fingers to gauge how much salt you would like to add. This just depends on how much of an exfoliant you want.

Once you have the paste where you want it you'll want to spoon it into your jar. I topped off the paste with about 8 drops of lavender oil before closing the jar. I found it more enjoyable to put the jar in warm water before using it, this makes the paste easier to apply and warm to the touch.
