I got an early birthday present from one of my dearest friends Amelia and I have not been able to put it down! It was such a treat to open the package because I have been wanting one of these for years!
She got me this super stylish silver and black one and I am in love! The first image below was the first image I ever took and I think it is so pretty. I have heard that it can be sort of hit or miss as to how many frames actually produce an image and for my first three rolls, I got quite a few pretty clear images. As you can see I am still mastering my focusing ability, but I actually don't mind some of blur.
I am lucky enough to a have a well established camera and film store right around the corner from my house. I have heard from a few people that they have to send their film in or drive an hour to a store so I feel really fortunate and also sort of terrified that it might go out of business. In just one week I don't think I will be able to live with out film, haha.
Check out my first attempts at The Holga, below:)

Do you have a Holga? Any pointers to get a handle on the focus? I would love to see some of your images!

i love the second one down, and your self portrait turned out great! i took a holga class earlier this year and loved it! i've only shot in black and white so far (part of the classes was developing in the darkroom and they only had a bnw room) and you can see my pictures here:

one thing i learned was the holga can't focus on things closer than about 5 feet from the lens. so when i want to take a picture of something close, i hold out my arm to it, and then mentally add about two feet. it took me about four rolls to really get used to focus and be able to pretty much anticipate how my prints would come out. i still haven't been able to really get good double exposures though! i always over expose them.

The holga is fun to play with! My boyfriend has one that I would use...although now he is living 4 hours away so I can't use it as often. I don't have any pictures offhand, since he would develop and scan them and I don't think I saved anything to my own computer. Enjoy!

I'd love to have a Holga. My friend just bought me a Diana as a present for shooting her wedding this weekend. So excited to use it! Love the last photo of you - it could be your author photo when you're book gets published :) x

I do have a holga, but that also is a camera I had to stop using because there is one place in Northern NJ that will develop the film, and even they send it up to NY to get developed! It took us 3 weeks to get our film done and was too much money. My husband adored it, but we stopped after he went through so many rolls of film that cost too much. :( It is wonderful to see how your film has turned out looking like and that you are having a great time and able to develop it.

I love how perfectly imperfect Holga photos turn out. They are so great! I love the double exposure of your husband and the black and white (what looks like) the top of a side table or desk...so pretty!
